I was going through the hardware and software requirements for vw 8.6.1 and it says vworkspace management database can be hosted on SQL 2012+. We don't have the ability to upgrade the SQL servers at this time. Is there a way to host it on SQL 2008 R2? Has anyone tried it?

Can the broker role be installed on the Windows Servers 2012 R2 core? (Core edition without GUI)
Does vWorkspace Hyper-v Catalyst service support Hyper-V server? (Core edition without GUI)
Our installation deletes the VMs when a user logs out and deploys a new one in its place. That makes sure that every user gets a clean installation. It also means we have substantial churn in the DHCP scope for that subnet. It would make life easier if I could figure out how to release the IP when the machine gets removed. I tried adding a shutdown task to the mix to do an ipconfig /release but that didn't seem to work. Any ideas on why or alternatives? I've shortened the lease times in that scope so the unused addresses get recycled, but making them too short winds up creating DNS issues. The release should actually help in both areas.
Hi, we are planning updating our vWorkspace farms from 8.0.1 to 8.6.1. The management databases runs currently on a 2008 R2 SQL and should migrate to a 2014 SQL. Unfortunately vWorkspace 8.6.1 does not support 2008 R2 SQL officially. I would prefer to move the databases in a separated step before we update to vWorkspace 8.6.1
My questions because i need a supported SQL migration path:
Supports vWorkspace 8.0.1 a 2014 SQL or should i install temporary a 2012 SQL Express, update to vWorkspace 8.6.1 and move the database after that to 2014 SQL?
Has anyone run into an issue where sessions are failing to delete? Since the last major and most recent upgrade we are seeing an issue where on the first hypervisor the sessions fail to delete themselves and create a new machine. On the second hypervisor everything is fine and works as it should. I've been on the phone with support for it previously and when they are done everything works but then within weeks it is back to the same issue. just curious if anyone can shed some light on the situation or maybe has had the same issue and a solution. The error for the individual sessions is:

We would like to receive an email if a computer group (specifically a cloud) in vWorkspace has few or no available (logged off) machines. We have vWorkspace Monitoring/Diagnostics (Foglight) installed and sending emails, but have no idea what rule to set or build to do this.
We have vWorkspace 8.6 (not .1) and vMD 5.7.1
1. When will device-based, instead of user-based, streaming applications be available? I do not care who logs onto the client, I have a set of applications I want available to the device.
2. In all versions of WSM you were only able to stream applications, based on user account. We use generic, auto-logon, user accounts. Sometimes as many as 100 clients will be logged on, with the same user account. In past versions, this was not an issue, it did not matter if the same user account was utilizing the same streaming application. At some point, you broke this and now streaming applications are worthless to us. Bring back the functionality you took away, or add device-based streaming applications.

Hi all, having a problem with saving profiles when logging off.
I cant really tell what triggers this, but 50% of the time someone logs off, the profile doesn't get copied back to the server. So basically the .gbl file doesn't get updated and they lose any changes made since the last login.
I first noticed it when creating profiles, and pinning things to the start bar / or Outlook profiles were disappearing after I logged off a user.
I've had times where I would log in for 10 minutes and just create an outlook profile, right up to users staying logged in for 5 days at a time. It doest look like its a time related thing, as all of these circumstanced have suffered from the .gbl file not updating.
One thing I have noticed is the VM can take quite a while to log off (once the user hits the log off button). Minutes, so possibly something is timing out and failing?
Is anyone able to point me in the right direction for troubleshooting this?

We are running vWorkspace 8.6 with the Ubuntu Connector. Our VDI's are Windows 7 Pro.
USB redirection works because I can plug in my thumb drive and it will redirect it to the VDI and I can see my files. When I dock a MC1000 it will show as "Symbol USB Sync" under Unspecified Devices in Devices and Printers. When I open WMDC it is not recognized and will not connect to the device. I have also tried an MC9190 and have the same failed result.
Has anyone tried this before with any successful results?
When logging in to RDS via web access or app portal the keyboard doesn't work after deferred authentication onto the RDS session host. Deferred authentication works fine, passes you through to the RDS host, then when trying to reset your password, the keyboard doesn't work.
Has anyone else had that..?
I'm just wondering, Is this against Dell End-to-End infrastructure solution...? In my case yes, it is. We signed a three years contract with Dell for our entire infrastructure.. Networking, Servers, Firewalls, Storage, ThinClients & vWorkspace Solution. Also we are currently negotiating a Unified Communication project with Dell Software in Dubai and Bahrain. Since we have just finished the vWorkspace Implementation and users started using VDI on vWorkspace heavily and honestly they are very happy with the product and its simplicity.. By the time I finish rolling out VDI to 300+ clients mixture between Pooled and Persistent for students, staff, faculty, etc, etc... The Pilot of Lync / Skype for Business will start and 98% Dell will win the project for this implementation.
While I was Reading this article https://support.software.dell.com/vworkspace/kb/187157 in relation to Lync and VDI Plug-in Support, I really shocked me and I'm asking myself, what this problem can be resolved....? Go back to laptops and Physical Desktops, :)
Its shame to built a strategy and at the end of the completion you discover some elements are not best fit.

Due to Hyper-v complication in CSV setup and due to my ability to try understanding those complication, while on the other hand I don’t call myself as an expert in VMWare vSphere but I do have decent amount of hands-on experience in VMWare product since ESX version 2.5. When it comes to troubleshooting cluster issue on VMWare, maintenance, etc etc… All this kind of troubleshooting won’t impact other hosts in the cluster. Unlike with Hyper-v which gave me a great nightmare.
VMWare virtualization platform provides the same concept as Hyper-v Virtualization platform, with enhanced feature, less cost, less reliability and stability as well as complex in to setup and troubleshoot in comparison to ESXi. It’s just my opinion, others has his own opinion and justification but that’s not the argument. My arugment is, while I’m fully understanding how vSphere works let me stick with it rather than wasting time in understanding a new product that provides same concept (Virtualization).
That’s that main reason why I wanted to move my vWorkspace VDI environment to the VMWare setup, but the main questions are and before I detailed down the steps and the approach options, I would like to hear from others in relation to vWorkspace features in conjunction to Hyper-v vs VMWare setup. I’m going to lose any real features that I don’t live with it unless I have Hyper-v setup?
I’m going to lose VDI performance when it comes to user experience?
I’m going to face different challenges such as Pooled VDI on Hyper-v using disk referencing where the parent setup intend and the child VMs are linked to small disk file? Is this still the case with VMWare..?
Current Setup:
Before I jumped to the migration path I would to go with, I will introduce the VMWare Servers to host couple of VDI machines managed by vWorkspace which is setup on Hyper-V servers. I will see how that goes in terms of performance, user experience, user profile redirection, template creation and provisioning along with its customization…
I can see the best approach for this Migration Option is the following, please feel free to add any point.
1. Create VMs for vWorkspace roles in VMWare Setup, joined to the domain, patches etc etc..
2. Add all VMs part of Backup Jobs.
3. Setup each Role of vWorkspace on VMWare VMs;
a. Broker03
b. Web03
c. App03 with RDSH Role, make sure to install the RDSH Terminal Services Roles, and install Licenses and activate them. Install other Apps and Point them within the Managed Application Group.
d. File Server03 with DFS (User Profile Server), make sure DFS replication works correctly.. Configure vWorkspace Silos. (It seems vWorksapce limitation can’t point more than on DFS server in the Silos… Checkbox instead of ComboBox selection) J
e. SQL03 2012 R2 Standard in Cluster Mode. Will make sure the clustering failover works on VMWare setup.
4. Will make sure the Golden Image template, provisioning works perfect. 5. Will configure managed Applications and assign them to test users.
6. Will make sure My Documents GPO redirections works. s
7. Will make sure the test account is pointed to the correct User Profiles parameters in vWorkspace to make sure the user gets whatever has been created on Hyper-v VMs.
Disconnect Hyper-v Web Servers
If all of the above works, introduce another VMWare VMs part of the existing vWorkspace Setup and test failover.
Decommission of old servers.
Is it just simple uninstall and it going to delete itself from the database of vWorkspace..?
Or is there a special precaution that I must take care of…?

I have installed vWorkspace 'Terminal Server / RD Session Host Role' and have enabled 'Remote Desktop Session Host' feature on the RDS server and when I login to the RDS server I get a little pop up in bottom right corner saying
'Remote Desktop licensing mode is not configured' Remote desktop services will stop working in 106 days.

I'm trying to find out how many people have connected to VDI over a certain period. This will be ongoing report. Manager will use this to determine how many licenses we need and what is the usage (Sessions, licenses). At the moment I know people are connecting but I don't know how how to gather date.
Another questions is if I go to Management Console > File Licensing I see 0 In Use licenses even though people are connected. Is this supposed to show current license usage?
I have a new Win7 client that installed App Portal, when double clicking on icon the app does not launch. Looking in taskmanager shows that pnap32.exe is running. Can't figure it out. Any thoughts?
Hi, I've been battling with IE11 and getting it to work properly with Folder Redirection etc etc.
From my research, I think the major issue is it stores a bunch of things in:
AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Credentials
AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto
AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Protect
If you have folder redirection setup, for whatever crazy reason, MS has decided that those particular folders should ignore the redirection and save in the C:\
From my testing, this causes problems with IE11 remembering history, passwords, cookies. So basically everytime the user logs in, its like they have logged in for the first time, and they are presented with choosing addons, security settings etc etc.
Doesnt seem to be a problem with vWorkspace, as I've seen the topic pop up on Citrix forums, however I dont know if vWorkspace is able to get around the issue.
So my question is, is there a way to use the User Profile Management in vWorkspace to capture data outside the Appdata\Local folders? (ie. Appdata\Roaming)
I couldnt see a way of doing this.

We have just upgraded to v8.6.1 of vWorkspace server. When we used v8.0.1, we had windows connectors 8.0.1 that would automatically search for "vworkspace.somedomain/config.xml" and autoconfigure clients VDI settings. I've upgraded the client to v8.6.309.4062 and this time I'm just presented to enter "Website or email address" in the text box. Here at the university, we loved that feature since it the VDI was auto configured and students do not have to enter the URL. Has that feature has been removed from this version?

our current setup is the following version:
vWorkspace Version 7.5.304.547 on Windows 2008R2 Standard.
When a new user logs into the brokers via the HTTP link, they see the web portal with the logon textboxes, however when they input their credentials they are given the following error:
error cannot connect to vworkspace connection broker. Please contact your system administrator.
existing users can connect without issues. We have checked that the user's account is not locked.
I have checked the link, 
however we don't have additional farm.
I've rebooted the connection brokers and checked the event logs without finding the problem.

I have added the hyper-v host and the CB (same server) and when I try to initialize the host I get the following error:
Remote computer returned error processing message. The system cannot find the file specified (-2147024594) Setting host to offline

Has anyone found a way to get information on failed login attempts where people are entering the wrong username/password? We are using the secure gateway and I have the reporting database enabled. I have looked through the reporting database but can't find anything recording failed login attempts.

I've started rolling out our VDI in public which is used by our students, I have noticed majority of our students they don't logoff their session and they just disconnect the session. It's an overhead management for the helpdesk guys to visit the Desktop Group and forcibility logoff any disconnected session from the Students Group.
Is there a way I can auto Logoff any disconnected sessions which passed 15/30 minutes?
If not, I'm sure this can be done using vWorkspace PowerShell, if the answer to the above question no and Yes to the PowerShell, can you please point me to download link of PowerShell?

Since a few weeks or months we occasionally have some problems with the heartbeat between our hyper-v servers and the connection broker. The problem happens occasionally on several or one hyper-v servers. And the effect is that sometimes we are loosing the heartbeat between CB an Hyper-V. The CB reports at this time that the Hyper-V Server is offline. Mostly after the night everything is fine and the CB reports tha the hyper-v Server is online again without any change.
Message in the Task View of the Hyper V :
Remote computer could not send a heartbeat to the broker. Remote computer could not send a heartbeat to the broker.(42010)
Things that I have already done :
- Test Connection and Ports from Hyper-V to the CB (5201,8080 e.t.c.) -> All succesfully
- netstat -aon on CB -> Liste succesfully to appropriate ports
- all Server Firewall are disabled
- Checked EventLogs
- restart several times the server "Quest Hyper-V Catalyst" on Hyper-V Server"
- gone through support.software.dell.com/.../58105
we are using in every environement vWorkspace 8.6.1 with actual patches and all involved Servers are Windows Server 2012 R2 with almost recent patches.
does anybody have some ideas or any suggestions ?

When I try to install VirtualDesktopEnviroment (qdcsrv) version 8.6.2, installation it's successfully, but if I start service an error it's displayed:
/usr/local/bin/qdcsvc: Error while loading shared libraries: libwinpr.so.1.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
If i install VDEFORLINUX version 8.5 works fine.
Where is the problem?

Actually, we have pools with CentOS and VDEFORLINUX version 8.5 but FreeRDS are using English Keyboard and we need to change to Spanish layout. Is it possible?
This customer have 3 domains with trust relationship and they can login into Windows machines but not in Linux with AD users from 2 domains. Users from AD where is the VM logs fine.

Why would this be? I'm simply remoting in to my Hyper-V server using a standard RDP connection from my desktop which does not have the vWorkspace client on it.
I am out of licenses. I have been attempting to purchase additional licenses through my Dell rep but she is saying that I need to go through Quest. Quest is saying that vWorkspace was not part of the DSG acquisition and that I need to go through Dell. This is going on the 3rd week. Does anyone at Dell who might read this have any clue as to what I need to do to resolve this?

On of our customers is trying to use Skype over a RDSH (Win server 2012 R2) on a vWorkspace 8.6.3 enviroment.
He is using Thinclient Wyse 3030LT and webcam Logitech C525 which is listed as officialy supported by that ThinClient.
When connecting the webcam to the TC you can see the video on the preview mode from admin session on the Thinclient, however when a user logs into his RDSH session the Windows is not able to detect the webcam and thus it doesn't shows the video on Skype.
So I have tried to fix that by adding the following code to WNOS.ini file (which corresponds to the webcam device):
Device=VUSB ForceRedirect=0x046d,0x0826,0xef,0x02,0x01
However it doesn't fixed the problem... I tried also to install wyse TCX suite server on the RDSH server and I configured a new device (webcam) with the previous data to allow its redirection. With no luck...
Please can anybody help me with this?

We would like to give our users a seamless experience whether they are logged on to the local network or are logged on through MS DirectAccess.
Our users can access their VDI Desktop when they are logged on the local network. When they connect through DirectAccess they cannot logon. This is probably due to the Connection Brokers sending an IPv4 address of the VDI instead of a dns name.
How can we achieve the above requirement of a seamless experience whether logged on locally or through DirectAccess?
Dell announced last year that it will shut down development in vWorkspace.-:( Big question for us: is vWorkspace 8.6.3. really the last version or may we expect newer versions (f.e. 8.6.4)?
In the Product Life Cycle table the dates for full support for 8.6.3. are left blank. Normally, this dates are filled in when a new version arises. Since it is unclear whether or not a new version will be developed, I would appreciate it if Dell would indicate till which date version 8.6.3. will be supported anyway (f.e. "8.6.3. will be fully supported till 1/1/2019 or later") ?

End of support (by Microsoft) for 1607 is (tentatively planned) march 2018, when will 1703 (creator edition) or 17xx (fall creator editon) be supported by vWorkspace?

Recently we have started to upgrade our vWorkspace clients from version 8.0.306.1427 to version 8.6.309.4530.
The upgraded clients all seem to cope with an issue. When the user get's presented the pop-up for his credentials, and the user makes a typo inserting either his username or password, after pressing enter the pop-up disappears and a second later it reappears re-requesting for credentials. It's not returning a different pop-up notificating the user of wrong / invalid credentials.
As such the user simply hits enter again assuming that perhaps he hasn't hit the enter button properly the other time. By the 3rd time, the user get's locked out and neither receives a message about that. The only way to figure out the user has been locked out is by checking into the AD.
The event log of the DC mentions clearly the user has attempted a failed logon which is either caused by unlocking the screen, or by logging in into a fresh session. The failed attempts originate from the Remote Desktop Server where at that moment the user was re-directed to by the brokers.
The users that are still on client with version 8.0.306.1427 are not encounting any of these issues.
Any advice on where to look, what to adjust, or whatsoever is highly appreciated.
